Crime and Punishment: a lot of crime and punishment... almost non-existent
Well, I don't think it's a secret to anyone about the crimes of armed robbery that are committed here in Colombia very frequently, unfortunately. Criminals go in and out of prison as if it were a vacation resort where they rest and recharge their energy to go "to work."
Some of the cases that most stuck in my mind correspond to cell phone theft, where a technological device (without the ability to feel) manufactured by man is worth more than the human being himself: a sentient, thinking and social being, molded by a Being superior to all. Wow, what a tasteless joke! Individuality and selfishness prevail over consideration for the victim and for the pain that his relatives will feel when they see that he has been murdered and his desires and future have been taken from him for... nothing, nothing more than an exchangeable object.
Cases that are not covered by the media go unpunished and, if the perpetrator is caught, his sentence will most likely be a mockery: a very short time for what he has done, thus ensuring future victims. Exemplary punishments are needed, please!
This being the case, I can affirm with complete certainty that: first, justice is failing (it limps and does not arrive); second, our principles as a society are failing and my interest prevails over others; and third, we have not evolved for the better.
