Ian Sommerville's Solid Foundation of Knowledge
Each area of knowledge can be thought of as a system, a whole made up of parts that cannot be understood individually; in the field of computer science and technology this concept is fundamental along with others such as: reliability in complex and interorganizational systems, reliable systems and factors that affect them, and there is a person who has dedicated himself to investigate them within his professional branch.

The passionate about systems research, Professor Emeritus Ian F. Sommerville retired since 2014, was born on February 23, 1951, in Gasglow (Scotland); In addition to being a physicist and computer scientist graduated from Strathclyde and St Andrews universities, he taught from 1986 to 2006 in Software Engineering in the Department of Computing at Lancaster University. In this period of time, specifically in 1988, he published his knowledge in a textbook for students, like us.
His most recognized contribution as a professional in the area of software is the aforementioned book (currently in its tenth edition) "Software Engineering", which could well be the accurate, solid and reliable basis for those who are entering this deep world of software development. In the present edition of the book he does not leave aside his marked interest in systems, since in the second part "Reliability and security of the system" he expresses it.
Ian Sommerville is, without a doubt, a recognized professional who has expanded his knowledge of systems (among which critical systems stand out) and software in both the academic and labor worlds, the latter being his goal to improve safety and reliability. The most important thing: he has complemented the exercise of his career with education beyond a classroom with his book, where the fundamentals are found to have a panoramic view of software engineering. To us as students, it gives us bases and vision of the basic areas of this career and topics that can be treated at more advanced levels and work environments.
